  • tonyb It is good for you that you have got a place in the final but I think it would have been fairer if the band had told people outside Australia that it was not worth entering.

Is it some instinctive chip on the shoulder that causes this cultural chauvinism?

    • Oliver Heath Thanks, it's fun to see so many different interpretations of the same material and cool that even before the judging stage all the videos get exposure to new audiences. The range of reactions from voters is interesting too - tastes are so polarised. I guess it'll be the same for the bands, it'll come down to what the bands dig. Impossible to tell. Good times!

  • Kirks Really, no offence is meant by this, and please take it as constructive criticism, but I don't get it.

What is this clip meant to represent??? And how has it got all those votes! It hurts my eyes to watch it!

To me, it looks like you have added some random footage, bumped up the exposure & blown out the contrast and put an adobe line drawing filter over it.
    I really don't see it!

I love this bands sound though, very eclectic and interesting. Nice choice on the song, but the footage really doesn't fit.

I'm guessing that you must have a lot of nice school or college friends voting for it.

Maybe next time try underexposing, using a high contrast & heaps of colour saturation. Then use your sketch or line drawing effect. It will give you an amazing look. And will be much easier to watch for the viewer.

    Try it out!

    • heartdavy No, offence, but "i don't get it" doesn't really seem like constructive criticism to me.

To me it looks a little ethereal, and there is a story to follow. Foe whats certain, my eyes do not seem to be damaged. So far there are some quite good entrants in this so called competition, but this is up there. Good Luck

  • Marf Loth Oh man!. This is great - Super dreamy! a perfect marriage for the music. If we know anyone who wins this absurd comp i say victory beers are in order. What else is there to do with four grand.

    P.S

I like the card tricks as well, they should make a cameo appearance in a possible future clip for "Queen Of Hearts" another Bridezilla song.

    GLORY!

    • Oliver Heath I'd go for victory beers, and perhaps something really extravagant like victory groceries :-p

  • JuliaF Congrats.... the linework is terrific and ephemeral. I've achieved that effect with photos in Photoshop ... Filter>Find Edges. What Filter in Final Cut Pro?
    9 months ago - comment
    • Oliver Heath haven't tried that filter before. Mainly After effects and some photoshop batch work assembled in FCP, many many filters. The grade and the blur was really important in getting the comp to look right. Thanks

  • jel This small film is just so haunting and evocative of half forgotten memories and half remembered dreams - and I love the use of the filters - and the cropping perfectly matches the rhythm of the soundtrack. Congratulations.

  • Julie361 what sort of filter did you use for that effect? pretty

    • Oliver Heath Thanks. It's a bunch of different filters to varying degrees for different shots. If you're interested in trying it out the best tutorial I've seen was one on batching video through photoshop, I think it was on creative cow. The thing that made the biggest difference was planning the shots, narrow DOF, high shutter, and being clever with exposure helps allot. If i'd had a budget I would have opted for a studio and experimented with makeup and virtual sets. next time :-)
