    • Kamachinima Prod The "I" is surely a mistake Pixelin.... As to why a panther rather than leopard... Heidi played a great role as Panther disguised a black leopard don't you think?
    • Alperetz When we investigated the leopard, we discovered that the panther is a kind of leopard and we seemed to visually more interesting for the story. That's why we use it. But thanks for the question, others may have aks the same thing. Anyway, let's save the panthers and leopards and all the cats!

  • Kamachinima Prod Thank you Pixelin and thank you to all who are commenting even if it is to express cutting judgements.

Everyone is welcome to like or dislike what is done and constructive criticism is always helpful as we strive to improve. Besides, nobody and nothing is ever perfect.

At the moment, the ratio viewing/votes is far higher than for some of the videos made with real cameras. This means that we are not doing that badly. This is a real encouragement to the team but it is also good for machinima as a whole. So let's hope it carries on that way until February the 22nd.

  • pixelin You have done a great job. As a member of the machinima community I wish you the best and hope you go on. We respect your work and just hope you have success and open more doors to the art. go ahead and do not take into account people like Nina or (visionsomething), she is not objective in her comments.

we are here to see videos and enjoy the competition, not to hear some people cry.

The video was cool, full of proposals, nice avatars, good animations and very nice Sims. the edition is good.

    • pixelin I see you upset that write bad about you in a place that is not appropriate. I thought the same thing when I saw that your friend did, under your name. I'm not part of this group, but I felt it was an attack on all machinima and I seem very wrong. I believe that false accusations and discredit others should not be well received anywhere. If we agree, do not allow. I apologize and move on. Lets talk about the video, techniques, suggestions, good or bad things, not lies.

  • VisionthingWST Hmmmmm - this is a very poor example of filming in secondlife, i mean the pole dancer is way to far away from the pole just the easiest example to show. Did this get accepted because you know someone that works/moderates for genero.tv. There are ways of dealing with and managing lag, and ensuring a smooth shoot.

    • VisionthingWST Sorry i can't Genero.tv dont accept secondlife video's apparently its not what the artists want...and anyway the dancer is way to far away from the pole, but i digress here's a copy of the email that confirms Genero.tv don't want secondlife video's

Hi XXXXXXXX, as I explained in my first email to you, we did publish some of these videos in the past, but since then we have had a growing number, and they are not at all in line with what artists are looking for. We cannot continue to publish them, as we are not a destination for Second Life videos.

      Thanks, Andrew

    • Kamachinima Prod You remind me of certain RL producers and directors I have been unfortunate enough to meet who enjoyed spotting every error in a film made by someone else. As if it made them feel somehow better. You are welcome to your opinion and by all means express yourself but understand that we do not pretend to be the best in the world.

    • Kamachinima Prod And to answer to your allegations that we might know someone at Genero TV, sorry we don't. They however check the content of the video before publishing and may be your video did not correspond to the type of video they are looking for. All the best to you and don't hesitate to post on UTube as we shall do once the competition is over.

    • pixelin I think that Nina thought it was easy to destroy the work of others, just because their work did not comply with minimum quality standards. Nina was very angry and would rather destroy the work of others to accept their reality. Nina is so bad that suggests that this work is here because genero.tv help this team, you are bad losers. as an "artist" you prefers to discredit genero.tv and kamachinima entire team rather than accept what happened?. Nina that is not right. your first machinima was 10 months ago. you have to learn first and then begin to compete. I dont understand How can someone with envy destroy all the machinima comunity just because they do not accept your work? Nina bad ....

    • nina camplin I have left no bad comments about this video, so will people (pixelin) please stop slagging me off personally, what I am objecting to is generotv changing the selection process half way through the contest and here I am quoting from an actual email they sent me:

Hi Nina, as I explained in my first email to you, we did publish some
of these videos in the past, but since then we have had a growing
number, and they are not at all in line with what artists are looking

So please will people stop making this a personal issue, all we SL machinima makers should be sticking together on this and making our voices heard that WE ARE NOT HAPPY!!!!

  • pabloeyre How did you make this? You have to design every object and person in 3D and then set up the camera movements? I am not sure how it works with Second Life.

A lot of work in here. Congrats
    1 year ago - comment
    • Kamachinima Prod Yes everything you see in the video has been made by the residents of Second Life, including most of the animations. Some things have been made for the purpose of the clip (the cage for example) and others already existed.
The Director (in this case Al Peretz) uses his screen as the eye of his camera while people make their avatar move as best as they can (because of lag) following his instructions.

    • Elle Muhlhauser Admire All You Need is Now & work with the existing 3D objects here on Second Life. With all the virtual cougar woman kits & characters, it's about controlling a program; not making an animated film. I wish you great success in building community on Second Life for the two Duran Duran songs you have chosen.
    • Alperetz Process of creating videos in virtual world is like that develops when any producer company makes a video. Story is written first, and from that idea is beginning to find or build all the elements that compose it. To get the characters we make a casting, and once is elected we find costumes, animations and poses, and any element that is necessary.

When everything is ready we will start working. People from different countries and times meet in the virtual world and communicate by voice and text to create the video. often an actor is on day time, one at night and one is already living the next day, because one is in USA, one in Australia and one in France. We often speak different languages and writing we must use translators to communicate. Here we had participation of people from Colombia, France, Spain, Sweden, Holland, Brazil and Mexico

Everything happens in real time. The director films the movie within a range very similar to those of any production, and subsequently edit as a normal production.

      Thanks for your comment

    • Elle Muhlhauser Thanks Al & I hope you win also. But, never understand Second Life being on defensive for last ten years about virtual writing, elements, casting being same as for real. The costumes already exist and avatar's are, to an extent, customised, (hence Cougar-Woman). Different languages and, for example, making games online with animation from scratch and for real world video making are just as hard and, in real time, far harder. You get my vote, but I cannot relate this story to the Duran Duran notes. Once again, I hope you win.
    • Alperetz Thank you very much for your interest in this topic and to open the discussion. For us it is very important to talk about machinima in other public spaces .
Maybe I did not explain well or it is a little hard to imagine that in a virtual world similar things happen to those that occur in our "real life. " We write the stories, and transform through pre-production treatment that can become real. this requires all the techniques and elements of the realization of real-life film.

story, characters, locations, props, costumes, makeup, photography, production, and additionally, animation, construction, special effects and communications. All with real people and real artists.

The casting is like in real life, you calls or search the characters you need, until you get them. Not all profiles you need exist, some you have to create (as is the case all you need is now, the group) there are also many opportunities so it is important to create them.

I suggest you visit this project "1000 avatars" to see a little above shows the possibilities.
      http://1000avatars.wordpress.com/

The same is true of locations, animations, clothing and other items. Just as in real life, you have it, or you construct, buy or rent.
You and others are invited to see how we work any time, in real time but in virtual world. that's another cool possibility we can do in this kind of machinima.

The creation of these Machinimas for Duran Duran mean a lot to us, specially to have worked with people from diferent places in the world brought together in a 3D Virtual World and with a special characteristic: The Love for the music of Duran Duran, because behind every single avatar is a real person with feelings.
    It was a great experience.

I'll sell her to you for the right price. I think if I see one more "sims" style videos, I think I'm gonna scream. No, I won't wait. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
BTW - ANY IDIOT WITH A COMPUTER AND AN IQ OVER 67 CAN MAKE A VIDEO LIKE THIS. I was about to buy one of the Sims video games, now, probably not. Whew. Sorry, I needed to say that and get that off my chest. I'll go take my Ritalin now.

    • VBDC @Bawbster1
This isn`t Sims at all this is SL , so you are wrong , every scene in SL is made by artists who spent a lot of time creating designing and programming these scenes , besides the fact that you need verry expensive resources to create an artwork like this powerfull computer , rendering software and people who have the knowledge to use them so a litle respect for these people would be on it`s place if you can`t even distinct a Sims screencapture from a true Machinima this says more about you as about the artists who by the way have done an excellent job

    • JoJa Dhara It might look like a game kind of environment but as it is made in a Social Virtual World its unique as it is made with an International crowd. A great International community that is co creating this machinima. A Social Virtual World is great platform to explore, co-create and socialize. To break borders and meet. We are aware that Duran Duran is still exploring also to make a virtual community around their band and brand. Can’t think of better platform where fans can gather experience the music and exchange. Its already happening as you can see as this as results.

    • Bawbster1 OK - I used to to 3D level design for DOOM, DOOM 2, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, Quake and a few other 1st person type games/environments, so I do know a little about graphics and design. It's all about database management if you get right down to the nuts and bolts of the programming of the actual game engines, but that's besides the point. I do know this isn't a SIMS video OK. I just compared it to the SIMS because it does look similar. BTW, I don't think I called it a SIMS video, I called it a SIMS "STYLE" video. There is a DIFFERENCE. Try learning to read, eh? ;-) - BTW, on YouTube, I've done videos for DD's "Virus" and "Salt In The Rainbow", (on my channel under the same handle of Bawbster1 - feel free to compare - be as harsh as you like - I do use "stock-type footage" or "rips offs" from other videos, and movies in them, so there would be copyright issues - but at the time I was just messing around as a fan and wasn't really planning to release it into a contest or to make money from it). Yes, this is an original video with some really good ideas, I just don't think these "environments" look very professional and get your ideas across the way they deserve to be. You obviously have a lot of talent, I just hate to see you minimize it by such a limiting medium. My point being, well...if any band has put out an "official" video like this, then name it. If it actually has happened where a band has released an official video like this, I'm guessing that video won't win any design awards any time soon. I can see using this as a "rough-cut" of a video (as a storyboard - if you will), to finish later on, but to pass this off as a finished project? Really? As for the harshness of my previous comment, sorry about that. Just showing my own frustrations for not knowing about this contest sooner (Not sure if I would've won - but if my videos didn't turn out to be better than this one, I would've censored myself and not submitted it. So, I'm not trying to be negative, just honest. Finally, my previous post was done with a bit of tongue-in cheek (sp? having a brain fart here) type humour, so it wasn't meant to offend, but it apparently did, so sorry folks. About my videos, check them out on YT and rip me right back - just be honest about it. Are we good now? (and I have played the SIMS with my nephews - not a bad game, just not my cup of tea).

    • Kamachinima Prod Rafale Kamachi here talking for Kamachinima Prod.

As answered to your first post, we have room for improvement. No offence taken and you have the right to express yourself.
I appreciate that to people who are not familiar with virtual words and machinima, this clip might seem a bit rough and not as rounded on the edges as a film made with a "real" camera. Creating machinima is after all like going back to the early days of cinema ;-).
What is important here though, apart from the fact that some of us do love Duran Duran, is that it is collaborative work.
Check out our blog may be to understand a bit more what we are trying to achieve ?

      All is cool. No worries.

    • Bawbster1 I guess, without the leaders in industries not quite ready, they never will be. Look at what was going on with computer graphics engines ten years ago. Now imagine ten years from now! So in that sense, I was very wrong. Keep 'er going.
    • Alperetz You have a very limited and poor concept of what an entire community is doing. You rely on your ignorance to write here and offend many people. I recommend seeing this documentary that will be passed by HBO to premiere tomorrow, where surely you and others may better understand what happens in a virtual world. It is not the only reality, but it is interesting to reflect.
      http://secondlife.com/landing/hbo
One of the greatest assets of this work is seen as a global community comes together to work online and make a video like this. In this case involved more than 40 people from different countries, who managed to break the barriers of language, distance, time and cultures, towards a single goal, to create this video. If you really think it's simple objects or easy, I invite you to make a video and display it in our community.

Watch the scenes, details, clothing, animations, characters, production, concept and everything you see in front of this video was not generated by a computer, was created by a human, an artist who spent time , intelligence and great talent to make every element you see, exists. Here also is a story, not a union of image sequence with the edition makeup. We work in all elements to create this.

On the criticisms I think this is a place where all participants make a great effort to be, and that would be more interesting to constructive criticism that the filmmakers are encouraged to move forward and grow as creators and not make destructive critics lead to nothing. If everyone thought like you, sites like this would not exist. That's what I like?

I think that your excuses are valid, even now you do not understand the damage done to treat us badly and discriminate this type of production. We are a community that learns and grows by creating better works, I suggest you learn more artists and certainly in the future you will be a fan of machinima, especially developed in virtual worlds. I invite you. ;=)
