  • jimmymannix Matt O. if you really think this is one of the best in the competition then there is something wrong with you. We need less of you people telling a talented individual that this video is good. This was obviously stock shot sometime during the summer...so it wasn't even constructed for this competition. And how is Film Critic hassling him? He made one comment and I've heard worse from professional critics that get paid and are way more respected. It's a competition, and half the votes are from people he knows...that's how this works. Way to use the same words, like "abstract". There's nothing abstract about this piece. It's great stock that he cut together...if anything we should be voting for people like you who would like to cuddle this kid in your spare time.

    • Film Critic Thanks.
Its well done, but perhaps would better suit an ad for a wind power company

  • Film Critic Well...
    What to say
Well i watched this video exactly ONE time.
    And I was significantly disappointed.
    Very cliche.
    Good effort but.
    Id rather watch dragonball z
    I hate dragonball z.
Good man the creator, not against him at all.
Just why the foosball would you vote for it!

    • Matt O. Are you serious 'film critic'? Signing up for an account to hassle some of the entries? Leave the kid alone, he's made a creative piece of work and it's obvious that he's got a ton of talent for abstract story telling and composition. We need less people like you around here. If you have a constructive opinion, share it respectfully. People are voting because they like something, there's no need to slander the dude for getting votes. Get serious pal.

As for the video, I really enjoyed it and I feel it's one of the best in the competition thus far . . . you've got my vote.

  • FutureSite How did you keep the car shots so steady? Mounted? I really enjoyed the beauty of the shot compositions.

    • Shilson Yeah, I had a friend in the business that had a car mount so I rigged it up to the top of the car, watched from a little portable DVD player inside (fixed up as a monitor) and drove around. Let me tell yah, I don't care how much my camera was strapped in. . . I was super uneasy about it going 80km/h without it being in my hands. haha. Thanks so much for the feedback!

  • alex whyte i agree with most of the comments here....congratulations on the shots - beautiful! but the story is subdued by your desire to put all these beautiful shots in the one basket

  • jimmymannix Sorry it was a little harsh, and yes it's only one opinion. It just felt like you had a lot of greats shots, but nothing to tie it together. Like you said, there was so little of the guy and girl that it didn't mean anything to me. This is far from being one of the worst in this competition. Got a creative eye kid.

  • jimmymannix Honestly I believe that you're one hell of a shooter...great shots, however I can only fill in the blanks like kim did, you edited an entire day worth of shots. Great job? Yeah if your video is geared towards a Chamber of Commerce, story telling...no.

    • Shilson Hey Jim,
First off, thanks so much for the compliments. . . I'm really glad you enjoy the visuals. As for the story telling, you totally have a respectable opinion. . . mainly because it's the same thing I battled with in my head throughout the editing of this video. I had a lot more shot of the guy and the girl, and it was originally going to be the main storyline. However, as I edited it together I felt myself breaking away from it the more I felt the shots move with the song. I decided to cut the focused storyline and went for more of a visual and abstract feel. . . the type of video I ended up with gives different people many different takes on it, like looking at a piece of art on canvas. For good or for bad, it gets people thinking. . . and that's what I was going for.

Thanks so much for the feedback Jim, it's very much appreciated. I love picking at my own stuff. Any other comments are welcome!

Description:

This video took several weeks for me to film. I chose to shoot/edit it in an abstract way with subtle story lines that allow you to fill in the blanks. To me, it's a reflection of life from several different perspectives as you go through the progressions of a day from sunrise to sunset. .
