We think Genero is a great concept for a website. It gives people who are not quite established the chance to get their work seen by important music artists and their record companies. So once we discovered the site we really wanted to give it a go. I think the David Lynch competition was especially interesting as there were so many entries from people who were also fans of his films. If we had time we would have loved to enter that one too.

The Royksopp video has had an impact on our career. It went on from Genero to a screening at the BFI in London from where it was seen by Saatchi & Saatchi who included it in the New Directors Showcase at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity which is a hugely prestigious event that features some of the best new work from commercials and promos from all over the world. We also both have things that we do individually but this success has made the videos the main priority for us now.

We had already made a low/no-budget feature film but the style was to some extent shaped by the circumstances. We tried to find a shooting style that allowed us to work within our time and budget limitations which still satisfied our aesthetic preferences. One thing that we try to always do also with the music videos is to put in a lot of work to ensure our shots look good and that we have convincing performances from our actors. We also try to plan our shoots as thoroughly as possible while at the same time keeping an open mind and being flexible enough to go in another direction if we find something more interesting while shooting. We are interested in branching out a little but for now we also want to stick to what we know. So we still believe that music videos are a great opportunity to tell stories and our impulse is towards narrative.

The video for the Royksopp competition was the first time we did a music video. After that we did another one which also received a lot of acclaim. Unfortunately other work commitments including the completion of our debut feature film has meant that our music video projects have had to wait a little but there are more projects in the pipeline.

Even though we started out strictly as film makers, we started shaping our own production company CONTENTed FILMS through commercial projects we did within the past 3 years. As this has become more successful in the recent past, we would like to continue with commercial projects, but also not forget about our film making roots by getting started on another feature film around next year. Our main goal is to improve with each project we do.
