  • Kalliope-Amorphous Just wondering if Genero plans on keeping the social media voting system in place long-term? I love the concept of this site, but I don't like the voting system and I refuse to post all over the place asking for votes, because then it's basically a Facebook contest. A lot of people recently left another art opportunities site because of the whole social media voting debate. Would just like to hear Genero's feedback and wonder if the voting method will still be used in most contests?

    • Josh Wroe I hear ya on that. Spamming friends is a pain in the ass - you always have to buy the first round next time you see them...
      Yet the winner of the contest (in my history of Genero) is not chosen by FB likes.
      Smaller cash prize and an opportunity to be a finalist is what I've seen.
      Using the FB likes is actually a really good thing. It generates more interest and publicity for Genero, which in turn will attract more artists to find directors via this platform. And if you do win a contest, then more people will know about it....

    • Genero Thanks for the feedback. We definitely won't be basing winners solely on Facebook Likes so don't worry about that. Completely understand that it has its limitations but it also has some benefits as Josh mentioned. We'll continue to look at other ways to improve the voting element of competitions including a system that allows people who've submitted videos on the site to help choose peer-voted award winners.

  • Crimsoneye Just thought I'd post a general community comment that people should just ignore the members of the site who comment negative things about their videos (if there is no constructive merit to it). I use this site and its competitions as an outlet to try new things and learn more about what I can accomplish, I know I'm not a professional and the majority of the people uploading to this site are similar. Whether you are an amateaur or semipro or a professional using this site to extend their brand, you still learn somthing new every time you make a video. Creative communities are great for what they can achieve through encouragement and advice, and if someone tries to tear you down for trying then they're already worse off than you will be for their comment.

    • Crimsoneye With contests like WooWoos where there is only one cash prize there is one winner. With Sin City there were several prizes and the best of those winning films was then the overall winner. By the way I really enjoyed your video, good luck!

    • Crimsoneye Most people don't upload until a few days before deadline, a lot of people are probably already filming and editing. And there's always a long story behind videos being 'official', can be regional or replaced entirely.

    • Genero Thanks Crimsoneye. Yep a while to go yet so don't read much into there not being many entries so far. The band have made another video for this song because they needed it earlier but the competition is being run in full partnership with the band and Mercury Records so no reason not to enter!

  • Genero We've updated the homepage so it now shows a random selection of Featured videos, which are basically Genero staff picks. There are so many amazing videos that have been submitted so we wanted to give them a better opportunity to be watched and appreciated. Hope you enjoy!
