BOOKA SHADE TEENAGE SPACEMAN WINNER

Posted on: Friday, 23 July, 2010

Booka Shade have chosen the winner for the Teenage Spaceman music video competition. The winning video was made by Matthew Harris from NZ and you can watch it here. Congrats Matt! Matt will now receive €3000 and his video will be serviced to media internationally in support of Teenage Spaceman's single release.

We were very touched to see such an amazing response to the video competition.  It was the first time we did a competition like this and we were really surprised at how professional and convincing most of the videos we saw were.  Watching them was very fun and also moving at times.
In the end, it was a battle between Quirky and Cool:
On one side, we kept coming back to the video from Alex et Ol.  We liked the idea of different people with a common interest walking forward in their daily lives while the rest of the world walks backwards.  We've had exactly the same feeling when leaving a club after a beautiful party night.  The video had the best look of all the videos and the casting is amazing.  The flow and style is without a doubt perfect.
On the other side, there was the video from Matthew Harris, where a loner finds contact to the world again with a self made space suite.  The narrative is held together with amazing special effects from Fergus Jack-Hinton and Fred Marshall and a fantastic performance by Scott Orr.  The video is freaky, funny, a little trashy (in a a positive, dee lite circa early 90s, way).  We've never had a video with a sense of humour before and our initial reservations were slowly quashed as something kept making us return to watch it over and over.
In the end, we could only pick one and after much back and forth between ourselves, our family and friends, we picked the entry from New Zealand.  Congratulations Mathew.  Make sure you celebrate properly with Scott, Fergus and Fred.
We also want to single out Protonsanon and Rivetting.  How do you all make such incredible videos with no budget?!  Amazing!  The characters you created will be etched in our heads for a very long time.
Also, we want to say hi to the town of Troyes.  It is a very surreal experience to see so many great dancers move to your music.  Maybe one day we can come and play there and see you all dance in person.
Thanks everyone.
Best,
Walter and Arno

BAND OF SKULLS FINALISTS SELECTED

Posted on: Thursday, 22 July, 2010

The finalists for the Band of Skulls comp to make the official video for Fires have now been chosen. Again it was really hard to narrow down all of the entries to just 4 finalists (to go with the 2 finalists that got the most votes). We'd like to give some honorable mentions to a few film makers who were really close to being selected. Sorry you weren't selected but we could only choose 4: Winther12isabelewenstupid bananaFRABfilms and gcmp.

A message to all of the other entrants from Band of Skulls:
"Thanks very much to everyone who entered and spent so much time and energy putting their videos together. It was a very interesting experience to see how others interpreted our music and there were some fantastic entries. Thanks again."

CONTENT GUIDELINES - PLEASE READ

Posted on: Sunday, 14 March, 2010

Before you get started, make sure your video content is suitable. Here are the main reasons for videos not getting approved;

- creatively or conceptually, there is not much of an idea (eg. family/travel/stock footage set to music)
- the overall production or editing quality level is too low
- your video has racist, violent or defamatory content

Creativity is very subjective, for that reason we often can't give specific reasons why your video has been rejected. Remember we're looking for videos that could potentially be used as the official music video for the artists and songs we feature.

NO 4:3, BLACK BARS OR CREDITS

Posted on: Thursday, 25 February, 2010

Please note 3 important requirements when creating a music video for any Genero.tv comp.

Our recommended aspect ratio is 16:9, however you can also use 1.85:1 or 2.39:1. Other aspect ratios like 4:3 are no longer useable in today's media platforms.

Please ensure there are no black bars surrounding your video, our transcoding process will automatically add the appropriate padding at the top and bottom of the video if it is wider than 16:9.

Credits or titles are not permitted on the video you upload. If you have already done so, please upload an updated version without credits or titles. You can use the Description and Other Credits fields to provide any additional info on your video and recognise any additional contributors.
