BOOKA SHADE TEENAGE SPACEMAN WINNER

Posted on: 23rd of July 2010, 3:56 pm

Booka Shade have chosen the winner for the Teenage Spaceman music video competition. The winning video was made by Matthew Harris from NZ and you can watch it here. Congrats Matt! He will now receive €3000 and his video will be serviced to media internationally in support of Teenage Spaceman's single release.

Here is some feedback from Arno and Walter from Booka Shade.

We were very touched to see such an amazing response to the video competition.  It was the first time we did a competition like this and we were really surprised at how professional and convincing most of the videos we saw were.  Watching them was very fun and also moving at times.

In the end, it was a battle between Quirky and Cool:

On one side, we kept coming back to the video from Alex et Ol.  We liked the idea of different people with a common interest walking forward in their daily lives while the rest of the world walks backwards.  We've had exactly the same feeling when leaving a club after a beautiful party night.  The video had the best look of all the videos and the casting is amazing. The flow and style is without a doubt perfect.

On the other side, there was the video from Matthew Harris, where a loner finds contact to the world again with a self made space suite. The narrative is held together with amazing special effects from Fergus Jack-Hinton and Fred Marshall and a fantastic performance by Scott Orr. The video is freaky, funny, a little trashy (in a a positive, dee lite circa early 90s, way).  We've never had a video with a sense of humour before and our initial reservations were slowly quashed as something kept making us return to watch it over and over.

In the end, we could only pick one and after much back and forth between ourselves, our family and friends, we picked the entry from New Zealand. Congratulations Mathew.  Make sure you celebrate properly with Scott, Fergus and Fred.

We also want to single out Protonsanon and Rivetting.  How do you all make such incredible videos with no budget?! Amazing! The characters you created will be etched in our heads for a very long time.

Also, we want to say hi to the town of Troyes.  It is a very surreal experience to see so many great dancers move to your music.  Maybe one day we can come and play there and see you all dance in person.

Thanks everyone.

Best,
Walter and Arno
